The Historic Marietta Square of Marietta, Georgia is straight out of a Hallmark movie. No, really! Many Hallmark movies have been filmed on the Square in the last few years, including Christmas movies. To enhance the cheerful, jolly spirit in shops and restaurants during the 2018 holiday season, Clementine Creative Agency created a campaign to engage both Square merchants and shoppers alike.
The Merry Marietta Window Walk first started by gathering interested merchants and pitting them against each other in a friendly competition to design and curate the most outstanding holiday window display. Once the merchants were committed and had designed their displays, the windows became the stars of the show! A branded website was created to display a photo of each window and showcase information about the game. A mini gameboard was also created on the Instagram account for social votes.
Merchants and Square visitors alike had a blast touring the participating windows and voting on their favorites. Users were encouraged to share their own photos of the windows on social media, and were rewarded for doing so with gift cards provided by the participating merchants.
Award-winning categories for participating merchants included Best at Night, Most Original, and the People’s Choice, voted on by the public. The Grand Prize (Best in Show) winner was scored on a graded rubric from a group of local tastemakers and was awarded a customized business social media strategy ($2500 value), an outdoor billboard feature, and plenty of press and social media recognition. Each award-winning merchant was also given a customized, branded trophy.
Within the 29 day campaign window, we had 26 participating merchants, 5300+ votes total, 10,000+ reach on Facebook and more than 800 new followers on the campaign social media accounts. No paid media was spent on the campaign, which was entirely organic.
